At Collisdene Care Centre in Strathaven, we’re thrilled to share the fantastic news that our very own Rosie Brennan, our dedicated Activities Coordinator, has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. She’s in the running for the Meaningful Activity category at the Scottish Care Home Awards 2023. These awards are a celebration of excellence and achievement within the care sector across Scotland, and Rosie’s nomination truly shines a light on her remarkable contributions.
Rosie’s nomination highlights the incredible work she does in providing meaningful and innovative activities and events for our residents. At Collisdene Care Centre, our residents have diverse and varying needs associated with learning differences, physical requirements, and mental health challenges. Rosie has devised a person-centered program that stimulates, engages, and enriches the lives of our residents.
One key aspect of Rosie’s work is her collaboration with various external partners within the local and wider community. Through these partnerships, she has been instrumental in breaking down barriers and misconceptions about persons living with learning disabilities. This collaborative approach has created a sense of belonging and inclusion for our residents.
Since taking on her role, Rosie has played a pivotal role in enabling many of our residents to flourish personally, physically, socially, and academically. She has introduced them to new opportunities that have truly transformed their lives. For example, she has supported residents in achieving their Level 2 SQA Certificate in Modern Languages, which is a remarkable accomplishment. Residents were encouraged to participate, and six individuals completed the 12-week program, passing their qualification. This achievement is a testament to Rosie’s dedication and the residents’ hard work.
Additionally, Rosie has been instrumental in supporting residents in achieving their Yellow Belts in Taekwondo. This program focuses on building confidence, engaging in physical exercise, and fostering new friendships within the community. Rosie’s commitment to providing diverse and enriching experiences is truly commendable.
Janis McFarlane, Regional Director at Canterbury Care, expressed her pride in Rosie’s nomination, highlighting Rosie’s dedication to the residents at Collisdene Care Centre. Rosie consistently seeks new and innovative ways to support residents in leading fulfilling lives.
In a time where carers have given so much to protect and care for their residents in the face of unprecedented challenges, this nomination serves as a fitting tribute to Rosie’s selfless contribution.
